Involvement in the management of Cardiovascular Diseases in Kosovo
Kosovo has been facing many economic and political challenges during the post-conflict situation. Among these challenges is the establishment of a functioning primary health care system to address the most basic needs of its population. Chronic diseases, e.g., cardiovascular illnesses present additional unmet challenges.
Program achievements included:
- A Diagnostic Ultrasound machine was shipped and installed in Pristina, and the clinics’ cardiologists, nurses and
technicians trained
- Experts from the Polish Zabrze Clinic conducted a needs assessment in Kosovo
- 7 Kosovar doctors trained for 3-6 months in Zabrze, Poland
-
Polish experts conduct a follow-up/monitoring visit to Kosovo after the trainings
The next steps for a Cardiovascular Disease programme in Kosovo include an improvement of cardiovascular disease prevention knowledge and management at the primary care level,
as well as continuation in the improvements of capabilities of cardiovascular specialists in the region.
